Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) aneurysms account for 5.5% of all visceral aneurysms. The SMA is the third most common site.
Inflammatory aneurysms arise from an infection of the arterial wall, usually bacterial. It is a complication of the hematogenous spread of bacterial infection, classically from the heart.
