Osteomyelitis in an infant

Presentation

Not moving leg for three days.

Patient Data

Age: Six months
Gender: Male
x-ray

In the lateral distal femoral metadiaphysis is an ill-defined lytic lesion with some surrounding sclerosis. There is extension to the physis but the ossified epiphysis appears normal. There is a thick periosteal reaction along the femur with associated soft tissue swelling. 

Case Discussion

The lesion was confirmed to be osteomyelitis on wash-out by the orthopedic surgeons.
