Knee pain and swelling following a twisting injury since few days
Patient Data
The coronal T1 images demonstrate longitudinal tear in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus with displaced inner meniscal fragment along the medial aspect of the intercondylar notch. The sagittal PD images demonstrate double PCL sign and deformity and enlargement of the anterior horn of the medial meniscus, appearances are consistent with bucket handle tear of the medial meniscus.
Case Discussion
Bucket handle tears (BHT) are displaced vertical longitudinal tears and usually involve the medial meniscus, the separated inner fragment when viewed axially resembles the hand of a bucket and the remaining large peripheral portion resembles the bucket, these tears account for about 10% of the meniscal tears and are usually seen in young adults with history of locking.
