Asymptomatic painless swelling of left arm
Patient Data
Broad based exophytic bony lesion arising from proximal third of diaphysis of left humerus. Preserved corticomedullary continuity with a cauliflower like appearance. T2 hyperintense <1cm thick cartilaginous cap present. Mild mass effect on overlying musculature. No periosteal reaction. No underlying cortical or marrow abnormal signals.
No interval changes in one year. No increase in cartilaginous cap thickness. Subtle subchondral marrow hyperintensity seen.
Case Discussion
Confirmation of diagnosis with MRI and assessment of thickness of cartilaginous cap to verify benign nature. Osteochondromas are one of the most common benign bone tumors encountered. Many of them are never even clinically detected if they do not produce any visible abnormality or symptoms.
