Contained rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm

The aorta and its branches show wall calcifications due to atherosclerotic disease. An infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm is demonstrated. The left posterolateral wall of the aneurysm extends into the left paralumbar region and follows the contour of the lumbar vertebrae with a draping effect ("draped aorta sign"). This is highly indicative of contained rupture.

- mesenteric, retroperitoneal, and pelvic fat stranding
- small hepatic cysts
- left renal cyst
- degenerative osseous changes
- subcutaneous edema
- cardiomegaly
- right pleural effusion

This case demonstrates the draped aorta sign of a contained abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture.
