Right lower lobe collapse

Chest x-ray demonstrates triangular shape opacity in retrocardiac region on right side. It is associated with obliteration of the right diaphragmatic silhouette. Right descending pulmonary artery is not visualized. Blunting of right costophrenic angle. Findings are most likely due to right lower lung collapse. Further imaging was not done.
Case Discussion
Features of right lower lobe collapse include:
- triangular shaped opacity in retrocardiac region
- loss of silhouette of medial aspect of the dome of right hemidiaphragm
- depression of right hilum
- descending right lower lobe pulmonary artery is not visualized
It is important to note that the right heart border, which is contacted by the right middle lobe remains well seen.
