Presentation
Pain and swelling in left leg for 3 days. Has Protein C and S deficiency, on long term Warfarin.
Patient Data
Filling defect in common femoral and iliac veins with absent blood flow on duplex interrogation.
CT to determine extent of thrombosis & exclude a pelvic mass
Filling defect indicative of thrombus extends from the expanded left femoral and iliac veins into the IVC terminating just below the renal veins. Note edema in the pelvic fat due to venous congestion.
Case Discussion
In the absence of neoplasm, extension of leg vein thrombosis into the IVC is unusual, in most cases terminating at or below the iliac veins.
