Is this a characteristic appearance and location?
Yes, absolutely. Supratentorial (lateral ventricle) subependymomas are also not uncommon.
When large, what appearance do these lesions typically have?
Larger subependymomas tend to have some faint - moderate heterogeneous contrast enhancement. They also appear more heterogeneous in signal.
Within the inferior aspect of the fourth ventricle is a small well-circumscribed mass that is isointense on T1 to the adjacent cerebellum and slightly hyperintense on T2. There is no evidence of calcification or contrast enhancement. No hydrocephalus is identified.
