Presentation

Fall from bike while intoxicated.

Patient Data

Age: 24-year-old

Left zygomatic arch fractures: comminuted fracture of the arch, and minimally displaced fractures of the frontal process and orbital surface. Minimally displaced fractures along the anterior and posterior walls of the left maxillary sinus as well as the inferior orbital rim. No other fractures seen. Hematoma partially filling the left maxillary sinus. Surgical emphysema delineating the left masticator space. 

Case Discussion

Zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture is characterized by fractures involving:

  • zygomatic arch
  • inferior orbital rim, and anterior and posterior maxillary sinus walls
  • lateral orbital rim

In this case, the fracture involving the maxillary sinus walls are minimally displaced and not evident on the 3D volume rendering.
