No acute infarction. Symmetric areas of calcification seen involving globus pallidi, centrum semiovale and dentate nuclei.
Case Discussion
Common sites of mineral deposition in the brain include globus pallidi and dentate nuclei. A spectrum of etiologies are responsible for calcium deposition in these sites ranging from idiopathic causes like Fahr disease to metabolic etiologies like hypoparathyroidism, hyperparathyroidism or pseudohypoparathyroidism.
In childhood, infectious etiologies (TORCH) should be considered. No identifiable cause for acute onset aphasia was identified in this study.
