Presentation

Cough for 4 weeks with mild chest pain, anorexia and weight loss (4 kg in 20 days).

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

A thick walled cavity noted in the left lower zone with adjacent ground glass nodules and opacities.

Multiple, thick walled, discrete and coalescing cavities with cystic and traction bronchiectasis and numerous tiny branching centrilobular nodules (tree in bud) in the superior basal segment of left lower lobe.  Larger ground glass nodules and tree-in-bud pattern in the antero-medial basal segment of left lower lobe.

Case Discussion

Sputum microscopy and culture revealed Mycobacterium tuberculosisfrom this patient, who is on anti-tuberculous treatment and responding to therapy.
