Case Discussion

Careful study of the lower lumbar spine is done in the anomaly scan usually done between 18 to 22 weeks. It helps in enabling decision making early in pregnancy should there be any need to intervene early for any developmental anomaly. a careful survey for the normal development of anterior and posterior elements of the spine as well as screening of the brain is imperative. Neural tube defects are a common entity that is prevented by the administration of folate supplements during pregnancy.
