Presentation

Motorbike accident, forearm swelling and pain.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a complete transverse  fracture at the mid to distal third of the radial shaft with overriding of the fragments.

There is a widening of the distal radio-ulnar joint with dorsal displacement of the ulna on the lateral view consistent with distal radioulnar dissociation. This pattern of fracture and dislocation is known as Galeazzi fracture-dislocation.

Case Discussion

The Galeazzi fracture-dislocation pattern involves fractures of the junction of the distal third and middle third of the radius with associated subluxation or dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ).
