Presentation
Vague abdominal pain.
Patient Data
CT demonstrates findings typical of a carcinoid tumor characterized by well-defined solid mesenteric mass associated with desmoplastic reaction and retraction of adjacent small bowel loops. A central small dot of calcification is noted as well. Incidental finding: hepatic hemangioma that fills in with contrast during the sequential phases of hepatic enhancement.
Case Discussion
The mass was proved pathologically to be a neuroendocrine tumor. The main differential includes sclerosing mesenteritis where the differentiation between the two entities is difficult unless a biopsy is performed.
