Echogenic mass consistent with fat and without blood flow entering the renal sinus. Renal vein invasion was not appreciated.

Hypodense mass with HU of -62 (fat) arising in the upper pole cortex of the kidney and entering the renal vein and possibly the extra-renal fat at the upper pole adjacent to the adrenal
Case Discussion
This is a rare but recognized complication of AML. It is not a sign of true malignancy rather a locally aggressive phenomenon that is treated by nephrectomy in order to prevent spread to the lungs as emboli.
