Presentation
Wrist pain after soccer injury.
Patient Data
Incidental complete fusion of the lunate and triquetrum representing an osseous luno-triquetral coalition.
Mild positive ulnar variance.
No acute bony injury.
- luno-triquetral osseous coalition
- positive ulnar variance.
Case Discussion
Carpal coalitions are rare. The luno-triquetral coalition is the most common followed by capito-hamate. It is generally asymptomatic especially when the coalition is osseous, as is it in this case.
Positive ulnar variance describes where the distal articular surface of the ulna is more distal as compared to the articular surface of the radius. It is associated with ulnar impaction syndrome and triangular fibrocartilage tears.
