Involuting fibroadenoma

Presentation

Screening mammography. No family history of breast cancer.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Overall breast composition: b. Scattered areas of fibroglandular density. Symmetry is maintained between two breasts. 

There is a well circumscribed macrolobulated oval shaped dense mass measuring approximately 16 x 11 mm in the upper and outer quadrant of the left breast with area of popcorn calcification within the lesion. No architectural distortion noted in the region. A well circumscribed macrocalcification noted in the upper and outer quadrant of right breast. No area of architectural distortion noted. Skin thickness is normal. Nipple is normal. No enlarged lymph nodes seen in the axilla.

Case Discussion

The case demonstrates the classical popcorn calcification projected over a circumscribed mass, which is a typical mammographic appearance of an involuting fibroadenoma (benign finding).
