Giant breast hamartoma

Presentation

Longstanding left breast lump.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
mammography

Left breast fairly circumscribed giant inhomogeneous mass lesion surrounded by a capsule showing mixed densities (both radiolucent and radiodense components). Multiple scattered non clustered microcalcifications are seen within the mass.

ultrasound

Left breast huge oval isoechoic solid mass lesion at 1- 4 o'clock, measuring 3 x 7 cm and showing intralesional cystic changes.

Case Discussion

A pathologically proven case of giant hamartoma of the left breast.

Surgery was done, with the surgical lumpectomy specimen measuring 12 x 8 x 4 cm. The microscopic picture showed a benign lesion formed of epithelial component exhibiting foci of fibroadenosis, sclerosing adenosis, cystic changes and apocrine metaplasia and focal gynecomastoid hyperplasia, as well as adipose tissue. There are focal early spotty microcalcifications.
