Bochdalek hernia - delayed presentation

There is a large defect (3.4 cm) in the posterior aspect of left hemidiaphragm with herniation of the stomach through this defect to the left hemithorax. The gastro-esophageal junction is correctly positioned. Edematous changes are noted in the gastric wall. There is herniation of parts of the spleen to the left hemithorax.
Case Discussion
Congenital diaphragmatic hernias are mainly left sided as in this case. They are mostly detected soon after birth or on antenatal ultrasound however they may be detected later in childhood or even adulthood.
