Presentation
History of 'eating' almonds followed by a cough and irritability for 1 day.
Patient Data
There is increased volume and translucency of left lung in comparison to the right lung. There is no air space opacification, collapse or pneumothorax. There is no mediastinal shift. Heart and aorta are normal.
Photo shows a foreign body which was removed from left bronchus.
Case Discussion
A child presented with coughing for one day which started while he was eating almonds. AP supine inspiration radiograph shows increased left lung volume with increased translucency. There is no radiodense foreign body. Radiographic findings favored radiolucent airway foreign body and child was referred to a pediatric surgeon. Bronchoscopy revealed a fragment of almond in left bronchus.
