Vertebral hemangioma (Tc-99m RBC labeled SPECT/CT)

Presentation

Asymptomatic; referred to the nuclear medicine service due to a lesion in the vertebral body at L4.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Three Phase Bone Scan + SPECT/CT

Vascular phase: In the posterior image (right side) there is a discrete increase in the flow of vertebral body of L4.

The tissue image does not show hyperemia data.

On SPECT/CT, there is a decreased mineral metabolism in the vertebral body of L4, which presents on CT a trabecular thickening with polka-dot sign.

Case Discussion

The diagnosis by nuclear medicine is with 99mTechnetium radiolabelled red blood cells, with an increase of the uptake of the radiotracer. These are indirect findings by nuclear medicine of a vertebral hemangioma.
