Presentation
Chest fullness and difficulty swallowing.
Patient Data
Subtle rounded subcarinal density projects over the spine. Otherwise, normal.
Round, low-attenuation subcarinal mass. It compresses or arises from the esophagus.
Barium esophagram demonstrates oval mass compressing the esophageal lumen, likely intramural in location.
Oval subcarinal mass with fluid-fluid level, centered on the esophagus.
Case Discussion
Pathology-proven esophageal duplication cyst. Imaging findings are demonstrated on multiple modalities. Esophageal duplication cysts can be adjacent to or within the wall. They can contain ectopic gastric mucosa, which can result in hemorrhage (possibly accounting for fluid-fluid level in this case).
