Fall with forced inversion, pain in the region of the fifth metatarsal.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Transverse fracture line through the proximal 5th metatarsal with extension into the joint space with the cuboid and fourth metatarsal in favor of an avulsion fracture.

Case Discussion

Avulsion fractures of the 5th metatarsal styloid should be differentiated from other types of fractures that occur at the base of the 5th metatarsal as well as the normal 5th metatarsal apophysis.
