Respiratory distress syndrome and chronic lung disease of prematurity

Presentation

Preterm. Born at 26+2.

Patient Data

Age: 2 days (26+2 preterm)
Gender: Female

ET tube, umbilical catheter and NG tube (short in the distal esophagus).

Background granular lung parenchyma. No effusion. Appearances of RDS.

1 month later, there is widespread patchy opacification but no confluence change. No collapse and no effusion.

Case Discussion

Appearances represent chronic lung disease of prematurity which is a diagnosis that is given when a premature neonate that continues to require oxygen therapy.
