Presentation
Leg and ankle pain after being struck by auto
Patient Data
Minimally comminuted fibular fracture with mild widening of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis.
Further widening of the syndesmosis with complete disruption of the deltoid ligament, allowing lateral subluxation and valgus angulation of the talus with respect to the tibial plafond.
Screw-plate stabilization of the fibular fracture and trans-syndesmotic screw stabilizing the ankle mortise.
Case Discussion
Stress radiography determines the stability of the ankle joint. Using either gravity or manual technique, a stress view allows visualization of disrupted ligaments. This injury can be considered a Weber C fracture, which requires a stress view to complete the imaging evaluation.
