History of bilateral lower limb claudication pain

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
ct

CT scanogram shows amorphous oval shaped calcified lesion overlying the midline upper abdominal region.

CT aortogram showed dense amorphous calcification completely occluding the lumen of suprarenal abdominal aorta. Multiple collaterals were also noted.

Patient underwent bypass surgery with renovisceral debranching.

VR image of the aorta shows good caliber graft between the distal descending thoracic aorta and infernal aorta with renal and mesenteric arteries connected to the graft.

Case Discussion

30 year old female presented with long standing history of bilateral lower limb claudication pain.

CT aortogram showed dense amorphous calcification filling the lumen of suprarenal abdominal aorta causing complete luminal occlusion. No atherosclerotic wall calcifications were seen in rest of the aorta. Rest of the aorta and iliac arteries were patent.

CT features were consistent with coral reef aorta, a rare form of vascular occlusive disease characterized by dense calcifications extending into the lumen of aorta, predominantly involving the juxta- and suprarenal segments. It is typically seen in young patients.

Patient underwent bypass surgery, bypassing the occluded segment of aorta with renovisceral debranching.
