Presentation
Progressive painless swelling of the left parotid gland
Patient Data
A well-defined lobulated multiloculated soft tissue mass of the left parotid gland involving mainly the deep lobe. It appears of intermediate signal intensity on T1WI, moderate-high signal intensity on T2WI with areas of hemorrhagic necrosis, restricted diffusion on DWI / ADC and heterogeneous enhancement following IV contrast. The ADC ratio tumor / healthy parotid was around 1.15
The right parotid gland appears normal.
No cervical lymphadenopathy.
Case Discussion
Case of low-grade adenoid cystic carcinoma proven by biopsy and histopathological examination
Adenoid cystic carcinomas are usually considered as low-grade tumors with a high tendency for perineural spread. They represent around 1% of head and neck cancers and have a high potential for local recurrence after excision. The treatment includes a combination of radiotherapy and surgery.
