Choledocholithiasis

Discussion:

The presence of stones in the common bile duct is called choledocholithiasis. Stones in the common bile duct may be primary or secondary. The majority of the stones are secondary (from the gallbladder), at which stones pass into the cystic and then into the common bile duct. If the stone is large enough to cause obstruction, it can lead to obstructive jaundice.
