Presentation

Right lower quadrant pain with elevated white cell count.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

Ascending colon diverticulosis with edematous wall thickening and surrounding echogenic fat, consistent with acute diverticulitis.

Case Discussion

Diverticulitis is a complication of diverticulosis and is a result of obstruction of the neck of the diverticulum. It is usually seen in the left colon but may also be seen in other colon segments.
