Presentation

Rapidly progressive dementia, fluent aphasia and gait disturbance.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

A pattern of diffusion restriction is seen in bilateral caudate nucleus, frontoparietal, temporal and insular cortex, known as cortical ribbon sign.

Case Discussion

Cortical and basal ganglia (mainly caudate and putamen) increased signal on DWI is the most sensitive clinical diagnostic test in the appropiate clinical setting.
