Is this a benign or malignant mass?
Most lipomas are benign and are almost entirely fatty. Malignant lipomas (liposarcomas) are usually heterogeneous and do not contain so much fat tissue, however, the few areas with fat-like behavior suggest the diagnosis. An intermediate category exists, the atypical lipomas, which show heterogeneous areas between other areas of fatty tissue.
