Left eye swelling and proptosis.
Patient Data
Evidence of left eye proptosis with subtle inferior displacement is seen.
There is a large multicystic intraconal high signal (on T1 and T2 sequences) mass lesion with an amorphous shape and internal septations within the left orbit. Extension of the mass into the external opening of the superior orbital fissure also is noted.
Case Discussion
Lymphatic malformations are relatively uncommon orbital lesions. Deep orbital malformation often goes unrecognized until causing clinical symptoms such as an intralesional hemorrhage. The superficial type, because of cosmetic concerns is brought to clinical attention much sooner. Superficial type is much less likely to cause any visual disturbance compared to the deep or combined lesions.
