Where in the mediastinum do you think these calcified masses sit?
Anterior mediastinum - you can still percieve both the descending aortic shadow and hilar vessels.
Do you have a differential ready for calcified mediastinal nodes?
Common causes include: infective / granulomatous (such as TB, histoplasmosis), sarcoidosis, silicosis, treated lymphoma. Rarer causes (which are still exam fodder) are included in the article on calcified masses at the end of this case.
No overt pulmonary oedema or focal consolidation / collapse. Normal heart size.
Densely calcified masses in the anterior mediastinum. No evidence on CXR of previous pulmonary TB.
