The thymus is a great mimicker for lung pathology. There are several radiographic features which help identify a normal thymus:
- Thymic sail sign
- Subtle notches on either side of the cardiothymic contour.
- Wavy or scalloped peripheral contour
The normal thymus, however large it is, should not displace the trachea or compress the adjacent structures.
