Thymic sail sign

Discussion:

The thymus is a great mimicker for lung pathology. There are several radiographic features which help identify a normal thymus:

  1. Thymic sail sign
  2. Subtle notches on either side of the cardiothymic contour.
  3. Wavy or scalloped peripheral contour

The normal thymus, however large it is, should not displace the trachea or compress the adjacent structures.
