The MRI sequences demonstrate a well-defined intra-articular mass within the infrapatellar (Hoffa's) fat pad. It shows slight high signal on T1, T2, T2 GE, and DP fat sat as compared to the muscles (isointense to the articular cartilage) with a peripheral area of low signal mainly on T2, and T2 GE. No enhancement is seen on postcontrast sequences.
A significant joint effusion is noted with synovial enhancement.
A multiseptated cystic structure in contact with the dorsal aspect of the proximal posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is noted, suggestive of a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) ganglion cyst.
No meniscal or ligamentous lesion seen.
