Left breast discomfort; breast implants for 2 years.
Patient Data
Multiple "subcapsular line signs", "key-hole signs" and "salad oil signs" are noted within the left breast implant denoting intracapsular implant rupture.
Intact right breast implant, showing some radial folds.
Multiple small simple cysts are seen scattered within both breasts, as well as a small well-defined ovoid solid lesion at the outer aspect of right breast (fibroadenoma).
Case Discussion
MRI is the gold standard for evaluating breast implants, as well as for differentiating intracapsular from extracapsular breast implant rupture.
Localized silicone leak between the implant shell and the surrounding fibrous capsule gives rise to the "subcapsular line sign" and the "key-hole sign", whereas water droplets within the silicone gives the "salad oil sign", all of which imply intracapsular implant rupture.
