Three months of posterior hip pain.
Patient Data
Partial tear of the hamstring origin, involving the semimembranosus, semitendinosus and biceps femoris tendons. The tear measures 18 x 5 x 37 mm (AP x ML x SI).
No marrow edema at the footplate at the ischial tuberosity and no detached bony fragment.
An inflamed bursa is present along the dorsolateral surface of the proximal hamstring tendon.
The swollen hamstring origin and surrounding edema results in functional narrowing of the ischiofemoral interval and positive pressure on the quadratus femoris muscle. There is edematous signal within the quadratus femoris muscle.
Case Discussion
A case of partial-thickness tear of the hamstring origin complex, involving all the three components of semimembranosus, semitendinosus and biceps tendon. This occurs on a background of tendinopathy and ischial bursitis.
