Fourth extensor compartment tenosynovitis

Presentation

Ongoing inflammation of dorsum of left wrist since 2 months. Localized dorsal wrist swelling with restricted wrist movements for evaluation.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Extensor digitorum and extensor indicis tendons in the fourth extensor compartment of wrist is surrounded by exuberant fluid with echorich debris surrounding the tendons. Fibrillary pattern of all tendons are preserved. 

Case Discussion

This study highlights the importance of ultrasound in musculoskeletal imaging. The dynamicity of the study coupled with options to apply color doppler imaging to identify activity of inflammation renders this modality superior to all others available.
