Presentation

Ultrasound showed an absent right kidney.

Patient Data

Age: 6 months
Gender: Male
x-ray

The intravenous urogram shows a nephrogram on the left, with significantly enlarged left kidney but with normal shape and axis.

Left ureter is normal in caliber and course.

Opacified urinary bladder is normal in outline.

No right kidney seen, correlating with the ultrasound finding.

 

Case Discussion

The features are compatible with right renal agenesis and compensatory enlargement of the left kidney.
