What resultant humeral injury is most likely also present?
Hill-Sachs lesion (a compression fracture of the humeral head as it comes forcibly in contact with the glenoid rim).
What directions can the shoulder dislocate in, and which is most common?
Anterior : > 95 %; Posterior : 2 - 4 %; Inferior (luxatio erecta) : < 1 %.
How are these treated?
Closed reduction, followed by a period of immobilisation; 3 weeks for younger patients (< 30 years old, who have a very high rate of recurrence) and 7 - 10 days in older patients.
The humeral head is dislocated anteriorly and inferiorly with the anteroinferior margin of the glenoid, with some flattening of the corresponding part of the humerus.
