Patient Data

Age: 30 years

Axial, coronal and sagittal reformatting post-contrast CT scan shows pulmonary veins draining via an anomalous large common trunk to the SVC. There is an enlargement of the right atrium with engorgement of the SVC and IVC and reflux of the contrast to dilated hepatic veins. Note the large ASD.

Axial CT scan (lung windows) shows hyperinflated lung and barrel-shaped thorax.

Selected image from coronal reformatting scan shows looped common venous trunk merged with the SVC.

Scanogram reveals the typical snowman appearance.

Selected image from the axial scan showing the ASD.

Case Discussion

Contrast-enhanced CT scan done for this young female and surprisingly the scan shows the pulmonary veins passing posterior to the left atrium (instead of ending in the left atrium) and united forming large trunk drain to the right atrium through the SVC.
