Intradural spinal lipoma

Presentation

Low backache.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Lumbar spine

mri

Fat containing lesion, measuring approx. 8.5 x 13 x 19 mm (AP X TD X CC) is seen within the spinal canal extending from approx. L2-3 to L5-S1 level. Possible intramedullary extension of the lesion is seen with splaying of conus medullaris. 

Splaying of surrounding cauda equina roots is seen.

The cord appears low lying with conus possibly at L3-4 level. 

No obvious posterior vertebral fusion anomaly seen. 

Straightening of lumbar lordosis is seen. 

Posterocentral protrusion L4-5 disc is seen mild facet arthropathy, indenting thecal sac and bilateral neural foramina. 

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with intradural spinal lipoma.
