Breast abscess

Case contributed by Ayla Al Kabbani
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Swelling and pain in the right breast in a non-breast feeding mother.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
mammography

The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses (composition C).

A big, oval mass with obscured margins and density equal to the fibroglandular tissue is seen in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast.

Several right axillary lymphadenopathies are also noted.

Case Discussion

The ultrasound showed a big abscess measuring about 10 * 3 cm (images are not available).

The patient underwent drainage but the abscess recurred. Surgical drainage was redone successfully.
