Presentation

Inversion injury of the ankle during sport.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a subchondral lucency with a subtle halo evident within the lateral aspect of the talar dome, best appreciated on frontal view. There is no focal flattening or loss of contour of the talar dome.

No definite joint effusion is detected. No other bony abnormality detected.

Case Discussion

Osteochondral defects can be pretty subtle and thorough examination of the talus dome on ankle radiographs is warranted.
