Presentation
3 months prior to the presentation, the patient had wire fixation across a 3rd metacarpal fracture. Presented with a complaint of index finger drop for one day.
Patient Data
There is a discontinuity of index finger extensor tendons in the hand. The defect between retracted tendons edges is about 25 to 30 mm. At the site of the defect, there is a protrusion of two wires from 3rd metacarpal bone. There is a small amount of fluid at the defect.
Case Discussion
This patient had wire fixation across the 3rd metacarpal bone about three months prior to presentation. The patient presented with loss of extension of the index finger. Ultrasound shows a complete tear of the extensors of the index finger. The defect is filled with fluid. There is a protrusion of the proximal end of the two wires at the defect.
