Partial radial tear of the medial meniscal root (arrows), better depicted on the axial and sagittal plane.

Minor sprain of the medial collateral ligament and infrapatellar bursitis are also present.

Case Discussion

The posterior root of the medial meniscus is firmly fixed compared with the other meniscal roots. Such characteristics, along with the high weight-bearing stress of the medial meniscus, account for the highest rate of tears compared with other roots.

Meniscal root tears are usually radial.

The two-slice-touch rule increases diagnostic performance.
