Presentation
Incidental radiopaque lesion mesial to LL3
Patient Data
There is a well-defined, small, sclerotic lesion, measuring about 10 mm, mesial to the root of the partially erupted left lower third tooth (=canine).
There is a 10 x 8 x 5 mm well-defined sclerotic lesion with spiculated margins involving the left hemimandible just distal to the symphysis menti between the roots of the LL2 and LL3 teeth. There is no osseous expansion or lucent halo.
Case Discussion
Findings are consistent with idiopathic osteosclerosis of the mandible, which although used as a synonym for a bone island (enostosis) in the jaws by some, may not synonymous 1.
