What type of implant is demonstrated in this patient?
Three-piece inflatable penile implant. This is considered the "gold standard" of penile implants by urologists.
What are the main components?
1: reservoir in the pelvis. 2: pump in the scrotum. 3: inflatable cylinders in the corpora cavernosa.
What are the three main types of penile implant available?
The three main types of penile implants are: 1. three piece inflatable; 2. two piece inflatable; 3. malleable rod (reference 1).
How does the 'malleable rod' type of penile implant work?
The rods are made of interlocking stainless steel rods coated in silicon, inserted in the corpora cavernosa. When an erection is desired the man (or his partner) bends the penis into the desired configuration. Although the result is the least satisfactory in terms of mimicking a natural erection it does have the advantage of being able to take on more imaginative configurations.
CT confirms the presence of a penile implant with reservoir in the right side of the pelvis.
