Ectopic Pregnancy - fallopian tube

Case contributed by Marius I. Diaconescu
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Positive beta hCG and acute abdominal pain, please rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

The uterus is retroverted.

In the endometrial cavity, there is echogenic fluid compatible with a small amount of blood.

The left ovary contains a clear cyst; otherwise, the left ovary was unremarkable.

There is a tubular mass on the left representing an ectopic pregnancy in the left fallopian tube. Doppler was performed, and very little flow was identified within this ectopic pregnancy.

Case Discussion

Ectopic pregnancies are gynecological emergencies and the clinical team should be made aware as soon as possible of the diagnosis.

If a patient has a positive Beta hCG and no intrauterine mass, but no ectopic gestation has been identified, it is important to let the clinical team know that ectopic gestation cannot be ruled out.
