What is missing from this study?
Spectral Doppler interrogation of the ovary, to evaluate arterial and venous flows.
Can you see arterial blood flow with ovarian torsion?
Yes. Early on, venous outflow is compromised while arterial inflow is still present (this is likely because arteries are less collapsible).
What are CT findings of ovarian torsion?
CT is nonspecific when analyzing gynaecological structures. However, suspicion should be raised when seeing an enlarged ovary or adnexal mass. This structure could be located in the midline. Other findings include uterus shift towards the affected ovary.
The right ovary is diffusely enlarged overall.
The right ovary contains a partially collapsing functional cyst. The right ovary has a diffusely abnormal hypoechogenic texture.
The right Fallopian tube is diffusely abnormally thickened.
The findings are compatible with torsion of the right ovary and right Fallopian tube.
There is a moderate amount of clear free fluid in the pelvis.
